Biography

Joseph Chittenden, son of Nathaniel, 4, m. Mar. 28, 1708, Mehitabel Pierce. He resided in Guilford, and in 1743 deeded all his property to his sons Joseph and Benjamin." Children: "Joseph, b. Jan. 3, 1709, m. Patience Stone, Mary, b. Mar. 26, 1710, m. Benajah Stone, Mehitabel, b. Sept. 30, 1712, m. Ebenezer Bishop, Sarah, b. Dec. 16, 1716, m. John Byington, of Branford, Benjamin, b. May 23, 1720, m. Eliz'th Hotchkin, Jonathan, b. Apr. 16, 1724, d.y."[2]

Inscription
Although this person was likely interred in Guilford's original village cemetery (now the commons and public park in downtown Guilford), no surviving gravestone was known in 1818 when all gravestones at the Village Green, but not the people's remains, were dispersed to other town cemeteries.
