Lõpetas Põltsamaa gümnaasiumi 1931. Astus sama aasta sügisel Tartu ülikooli filosoofia teaduskonda, mille lõpetas paljude vaheaegadega ja välismaa reisidega a. 1940. Kuulus naisüliõpilaste seltsi Ilmatar. Ta pagulastee algas 1944 üle Saksamaa, kus abiellus Eerik Parloga. Siirdusid USAsse, kus leidsid uue kodu Schenectadys. Melanie Parlo on olnud aktiivne eestlaste ettevõtmistel ms. ka organistiks eestlaste jumalateenistustel. Allakirjutanul on olnud kokkupuutumisi juubilariga Tartus, 1933. a. suvel Viljandis ning nende Schenectady kodu külastamisel. - GUILDERLAND, N.Y. Melanie Kees Parlo, 93, of Guilderland, died peacefully and surrounded by her family on Sunday, March 6, 2005 at St. Clare's Hospital after a brief illness. She was born in Vandra, Estonia, on September 13, 1911 to Maria Kees and Voldemar Jurisson. After graduating from Tartu University, she was a language teacher and also served as an interpreter at the Swedish Consulate in Estonia. Melanie fled her homeland when the Russians invaded Estonia in 1944. She lived in an Estonian displaced persons camp in Lingen-Ems, Germany, in the British Zone, and taught English at the community's secondary school. There she married Erik Parlo, the school's principal and a former college classmate. They emigrated to the U.S. with their one-year-old daughter in 1950 under the sponsorship of the Schenectady Lion's Club. They moved to Guilderland in 1954. Melanie earned a master's degree in German literature at SUNY Albany in 1968 and taught German at several area high schools, including Linton, Schalmont and Mohonasen. She also taught German in the evening division at Niskayuna High School and Schenectady Community College. Melanie was an accomplished mezzo-soprano and loved the opera, classical music, literature and all other aspects of cultural arts. She was an active member of the Albany-Schenectady Estonian Association and the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was a frequent soloist. With her husband, she maintained a bountiful flower and vegetable garden and was an avid walker, bicyclist and health spa member well into her 80s. Above all, she cherished her family.
