BOUNTIFUL--Melba Palmer Penrod, age 81 , peacefully returned to her Heavenly Father on July 23, 1998.

She was born June 28, 1917 in Park Valley, Utah, the daughter of William Alfred Palmer and Virginia May Talbot Palmer. Melba married Lyman Wright Penrod on November 15, 1934 in the Logan Temple.

Lyman and Melba resided in Woods Cross, Utah since 1989. Prior to that they lived 39 years in Logan. Lyman passed away in September, 1996.

Melba's life was centered in her family and in her church. She has been a life-long, faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many different callings; including two full-time missions (North Carolina and Nauvoo), temple worker, and relief society president. She received 20-year pins for service in the primary and young women programs. She greatly enjoyed genealogy and compiled many scrapbooks documenting her family history.

Melba loved music. She was a self-taught pianist and used that talent throughout her life for the enjoyment of others. She especially loved playing in a dance band at the age of 15.

She also loved all kinds of handwork, particularly quilting.

Melba is survived by her three children, a son, Lyman Kay (Dawn) Penrod of Pocatello, Idaho; two daughters, LaDean (Darrell) Nish of Bountiful, Utah; and Sharon (Jerry) Peterson of Woods Cross, Utah. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; also two brothers, Ray Palmer of Salt Lake City; and Vao Palmer of Las Vegas, Nevada; and two sisters, Zelda Penner of Ogden, Utah; and LaPriel York of Bountiful, Utah.

Funeral services will be held at the Bountiful 13/53 ward chapel at 1356 N. 650 E., Bountiful, on Monday, July 27, 1998 at 11 a.m. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and again Monday morning from 9:45- 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment-Centerville City Cemetery.
