About Melborn E. Buck
Melborn Buck was born in Muskegon County, Michigan, Holton Township on September 19, 1872. He was the son of George W. Buck and Melvina Oatman Buck. He joined a sister, Scellian, the family called Lily and was born before they left Ontario, Canada. They emigrated to Michigan in 1872, probably coming in the spring of the year. He was a short man, stocky, with dark hair and blue eyes that twinkled when he laughed. He had the usual education of that time, first through eighth grade in a one room schoolhouse. The rest of his time was spent with the young people in his area, the Bunce's, the Oatman's, the Cosens and other early families in the area. At one of these functions, or perhaps at church he met Miss Alma Cosens. She was the daughter of Joseph and Catherine Eveleigh Cosens. Since the Cosens family was also from Canada, they had much in common. After a time of courtship, they were married on July 4, 1896 at the family farm.
The census of 1900 shows Melborn and his family, living on the farm with his parents. At this time they had two sons, Percy, born 1897 and Menno, born 1899. their daughter Leona was born in 1901.
Melborn died in 1938 from heart disease which became worse as his asthma problems increased.
