Obituary for Melvin S. Lantz Melvin S. Lantz, 80, of Rocky Ford Road, died Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at 8:15 a.m. at his home. Melvin was a mechanical engineer at Cummins Engine Company for 34 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Society of Automotive Engineers, the Air Force Museum at Bakalar and Columbus Kiwanis Club. A graduate of Sidney High School in 1949 and Ohio State University in 1954, he was a supporter of Columbus Youth Hockey and was inducted into the Sidney Hall of Honor in 2011. He was an Air Force Veteran. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. John W. Armstrong officiating. Family and friends may call at the church from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to time of service Saturday. A Praise service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2011, (Central Time) at Glendale Cemetery in Washington, Illinois. Arrangements were made by Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home. Melvin was born in Sidney, Ohio, March 27, 1931, the son of Alpha D. and Huldah Augsburger Lantz. He married Myra Lee Goff July 3, 1965. Survivors include his wife; sons, Kevin (Dena) Lantz of Washington, IL, and Michael Lantz of Indianapolis; a grandson, Louis Manzella of Washington, IL; seven nieces; and four nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Alpha David Lantz; and sisters, Treva Bidwell, Opal Redinhow and Alice Noble.
