Melvin L. “Pat” Niemeyer, 84, of Teutopolis, passed away at 7:52 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Teutopolis. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the church and will need to conclude at 6:30 p.m. to accommodate a prior meeting at the church. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the donor’s choice. Bauer Funeral Home, Teutopolis, is assisting the family with arrangements. Pat was born Oct. 11, 1929, in Teutopolis, the son of Arthur and Genevieve (Thoele) Niemeyer. He married Doris J. Thoele on Feb. 26, 1949, and she survives. Pat served with the United States Army, was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Teutopolis, and Teutopolis American Legion Post 924. He was the owner of Niemeyer’s Tavern in Teutopolis, owner of Ogoco Oil Company Inc. and the owner and manager of Sigel Elevator. Pat also worked for John Deere Equipment Sales and was the top salesman for American Life & Casualty.

Pat is survived by his wife, Doris of Teutopolis; children, Brian and Juel (Pruemer) Niemeyer of Dieterich, Steve Niemeyer and Paula Vincent of Teutopolis, Kathy and Ron Fusco of Raleigh, N.C., Bill and Annette (Wesselman) Niemeyer of Teutopolis, Jeanne and Jim Ordner of Teutopolis, Deb and Brian Julius of St. Elmo, Nick E. and Janice (Cross) Niemeyer of Teutopolis and Lisa and JB Sowers of Toledo; brother, James E. and Betty Niemeyer of Evansville, Ind.; daughter-in-law, Laurel (McKerrow) Niemeyer of Neoga; 33 grandchildren; and 42 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Nicholas Frances and Michael Niemeyer; grandson, Brian Sowers; granddaughter, Maria Niemeyer; and great-grandson, Eli Devore.
