CENTERVILLE--Melvin Wallace Potter began a grand journey on the morning of March 31, 1999 within view of the beautiful Bountiful Temple, from his window at the Columbia Lakeview Hospital.
He was born May 23, 1917 in Roosevelt, Utah to Wallace Edwin and Emily Noakes Potter. He and Alice Linton have been married for 61 years, with an eternity to go.He was a wonderful father to eight children: Mary and Gary Steadman, Eddie and Arlene Potter, Ina and Blaine Hoskins, Scott and Cindy Potter, Vera and Paul Christensen, Shirley and Craig Hilton, Emily and Chuck Montgomery and Susan and Mark Downs. Survived by a brother, Harold Potter, of Blackfoot, Idaho. He was the grandfather of 38 grandchildren, and 42 great-grandchildren, not including the four yet to be born who have already met their great-grandpa. Preceded in death by his parents, a special step-father, Clade Lee Scott, nine brothers and sisters.
He retired from the Salt Lake Board of Education. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he held many positions, including counselor in the Temple View Stake Presidency, and Bishop of the Jefferson Ward, Wells Stake.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Dennis Peterson and the staff at the hospital for their concern and sweet service.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, April 5, 1999 at the Centerville Canyon Ward Chapel, 160 South 300 East. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and again Monday morning from 11:45 - 12:45 p.m. at the church. Interment-Salt Lake City Cemetery.
