Biography
Mercy Hayward was born on 13 May 1677 in Concord, Middlesex, Massachusetts Bay Colony, the daughter of John and Anna (White) Hayward. [1][2]
She married Thomas Brown in Concord on 3 or 6 April 1706,[3][4][5] the son of Jabez and Deborah (Haynes) Brown.[2] Jabez Brown's widow Deborah and his eldest son Thomas were named as administrators of Jabez' estate on 28 September 1692.[6]
Thomas Brown was probably in Stow as early as December 1693 and still there in 1723 when he signed a deed with his brother; he was in Brookfield by October 1729.[2]
Thomas died in Brookfield before 16 August 1751 when his estate was divided.[7] The 16 August 1751 division of the estate of Thomas Brown names eldest son Timothy; son Abner; daughter Silence wife of Jonas Hamilton; and "our mother Mercy Brown." All three children signed their names showing some level of education.[7]
Mercy died on 26 April 1762 as the "widow of Thomas."[8]
