About Merthah / Martha Harper
Place of birth and death for Merthah (Martha) has not been proven. She was supposedly the daughter of Lord Lindsay, of Scotland, but that hasn't been proven either. No records have been found in the Scottish Peerage, The Lord Lindsay, during the right time frame, didn't get along with his wife and apparently had a mistress. She, or another mistress, could possibly be Merthah / Martha's mother.
I have that she was born in Washington, Washington Co, PA. She married David in the Newton Presbyterian Church in Newton, Bucks Co, PA. They had 7 children: Nancy; Sarah; Joseph; Thomas; Martha; David Jr; and Nancy.
Newton Co, PA Presbyterian Church Register 1769-1812, pg 13, line 6 at Presbyterian Historical Society in Philadelphia, also at Bucks Co, PA Historical Society, for marriage of David and Merthah.
