John Pierce is believed to have been born 1757 in Swansea, Bristol, Massachusetts Bay but no primary source documentation of his birth has been found.
A John Pierce of Rehoboth is found in Revolutionary War records<ref>Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors, A Compilation from the Archives Prepared by the Secretary of the Commonwealth, Wright & Potter Pub., Boston, 1896, p 374</ref>. Other records support the theory that this relates to this John Pierce and shows he served under various commands fromApril 1778 thru at least July 1780. His age varies in these records but implies a birth later than 1757 and gives a general description of 5 ft 3 in to 5 ft 4 with a complexion listed as "dark" or "ruddy." He married Elizabeth Horton 30 Mar 1775 in Rehoboth with Elder Nathan Pearse presiding.<ref>Dodd, Jordan, Liahona Research, comp. Massachusetts, Marriages, 1633-1850.</ref><ref>Arnold, James N. No record of his death has been located however a Will for a John Pierce appears in an NEHGS Massachusetts records index with a death date of 4 Dec 1832<ref>New England Historic Genealogical Society.
