About Micah Sayler
Micah was born on March 20, 1789, in Bedford County, Pennsylvania. After his father, Jacob died in 1800, his mother Mary Elizabeth moved the family to the Northwest Territory where he grew to adulthood.
Micah acquired the scanty education that was afforded by the early schools, consisting of about six weeks of schooling. Having a good memory, he thoroughly mastered the principals of arithmetic and grammar, becoming a fine scholar both in English and German. He delighted greatly in reading the solution of intricate problems, in the exercise of which he would sometimes sit up all night.
Micah was married in 1819 to Elizabeth Hillary Monnett, who was of French descent. Elizabeth was born in Virginia, about six miles from Cumberland, in 1791. Micah and Elizabeth raised four children--Margaret, Ann, Esther and John.
Micah and Elizabeth moved to Hardin County in 1851, settling near Kenton, Ohio. He made a purchase of land previous to the move and afterward bought a homestead near the city.
Micah had been a successful farmer and stock-raiser in the county he had lived in before he moved to Hardin County, Ohio.
Micah died in Kenton, Hardin County, Ohio, on April 12, 1856, at seventy years of age.
