Michael and Mary Hefta Merchlewicz both immigrated from Poland in 1878. Their first stopover was at Winona, Minn. They filed on a homestead in Pulaski Township in 1879. They had three sons and four daughter s Joseph, Alex, John, Stella, Bernie, Anna and Cecilia. He was one of the organizers and a charter member of St. Stanislaus Parish.
