Finding William Sinclare heir to late Sir William Sinclare of Rosling, knight, his father in the lands and barony of Rosling, viz. The castle, demesne lands called the 'manis', village and burgh of Rosling, lands of Lie, the 'park' and 'parkarislands' with the waulkmiln and grain mill thereof, lands of Otislie with the waulkmiln thereof, lands of Dryden, Wester Cakenbree, Netlaflat, Cowberyhill, Catcune with the mill thereof, Baxterland of Innerleith, 20 merks annual rent from the lands of Lany, lands of Eister Ravynnisnuke, Wester Ravynnisnuke and Carnehill with parts and pendicles, the outsets, gardens, orchards, dovecots, tenants, tenandries and services of free tenants, advowson, donation and right of patronage of the collegiate church of Rosling, provostry and prebends thereof and the chaplaincy of St. Mathew in Rosling, with all its pertinents, in the sheriffdom of Edinburgh; also in the lands and barony of Hartbetschire or Harterschire [usually Herbertshire] with the castle and fortalice thereof, viz. lands of Stainhous, Weyndis, Dunypace, Heiddis, Cuthiltoun, Lilliscleis, Barnego, Fynakeris, Meikle Donavene, Byris, Brede Quarter, Brounehill, Torsaule, Garlois, Blaris, Buksyhe, Manis, Offeris, Litill Dany and Grenys with the grain mills and waulk mills and their pertinents; lands of Cattiscleuch, Ester Famoir, Wester Famoir, Castell Rankin, Eister Thomastoun, Wester Thomastoun, Ballinkeir with the mill thereof, Ballinknok, Auchincleith with the mill thereof, Litill Donaven, Gomurschaw, the house on the hill of Bracanleis, half of the lands of Stanehous, Querell, Crawnest, Kerisland in Donypace, Stobuesland, Portonsland, Entybaid, Drumousland, oxengate lands of Donypace, with their pertinents etc., in sheriffdom of Stirling, united, erected, created and incorporated in a full and free barony of Rosling. Lands of Rosling are said to be worth 200 merks Scots N.E. and £10 Scots O.E. Lands of Harbertschire are said to be worth 600 merks Scots N.E. and £10 Scots O.E. Said lands of Rosling and Harbertschire are said to be held in chief from our Supreme Lady the Queen in Blench ferme for annual payment of a silver penny and a pair of white spurs or 8d. Scots at the market cross of the burgh of Edinburgh at Whitsunday in name if sought only. Lands are said to have been in Queen's hands a month though non-entry since death of said Sir William Sinclare. 5 June 1557: Memorandum narrating that Johne, Lord Borthuik, protested that the lands of Hethpule were lawfully redeemed and quitout by reason of the money consigned that day in the hands of the thesaurar of Edinburgh, who confessed that the same was in his keeping. Done on 5th June 1557 at the altar of St. James the Apostle in the Collegiate Church of St. Giles in Edinburgh. Witnesses, Cuthbert Ramsay, John Hammiltoun of Cumnok, Michael Borthuik of Glengelt, Thomas Borthuik of Pirntado, and Mr. Thomas Cranstoun, notary public.
