Michael Dorsey, Sr., was born on 15 March 1711/12 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, to Col. John Dorsey and his wife, Honor Elder. He married Ruth Todd, 10 August 1733. They had nine children: Ruth, John, Elizabeth, Honor, Sarah, Michael, Jr., Lancelot, Ann "Nancy", and Lydia Dorsey. He inherited land in Howard County, Maryland, called "First Discovery" from his father, ca 1764. Michael Dorsey, Sr., died 20 December 1776 at home on "First Discovery" and was buried on his property.
