Roscommon, Anne Jane MOFFETT (b. 1844 - d 1921, Co. Roscommon, Ire.) Dau. of: Hugh MOFFETT & Margaret GIBBONS. Children: Thomas Joseph b. 1870 - em. to US Maria b. 1871 - em. to US - d. 1907 Calif. Catherine Agnes (LEWIS) - b. 1872 - em. to US Mary Elizabeth b. 1873 - em. to US - d. 1893 Anne Jane (LEWIS) b. 1874 - em. to US Margaret b. 1876 - d. young Michael Joseph b. 1880 - em. to US Bridget Bedelia (MC CRANEY)b. 1882 - em. to US Elizabeth (REGAN) b. 1885 - only child to remain in Ire. This family has been difficult to trace; the name is often spelled GAFFNEY, while the true spelling is GAFFREY OR GAFFERY (one branch).
Bill McDermott: I have the certified Marriage and Death certificates for Michael as well as many of his children. - His surname was also spelled Gaffry and Gaafry on the official documents I have. - The surname "Gaffery" only showed up in my Irish research for some of the children and I have that spelling primarily since immigration. - Every indication I have is that all the children were born at home in Drumboylan Townland, County Roscommon, Ireland. -- Home was the North end (left) of the once thatched roof structure in the photo included here.
