About Michael Haubner
I immigrated from West Fallen, Germany to America in 1840 when I was 27 after serving three years in the German army. I travelled by sail boat for 31 days and will never get on another. I later came to Kentucky by flat boat and then moved to White Oak in Ohio to practice my trade as a Cooper. I worked for five years to save money to bring my wife, Barbara and daughter Anna to America. I bought 50 acres of land for $1.00 an acre at the end of Hubble Thicket Road where there was a forest of white oak trees and built my log cabin there. Some of my white oak logs were hauled up Hubble Thicket Road to be used in the construction of St. Jacob's (James) Church built in 1849. There were large white oaks in front of the church and within a few years, iron stanchions were build between them to secure the horses. Barbara and I had seven children. Anna was the oldest and married Stephen Seanshang, Martin married Lena Lytle, Gregory married Mary Decker, Barbara married Jacob Heid, Louis married Magdalene Scitz, Joe married Barbara Reinhardt and Mary married Frank Lumler. I continued my trade for many years then eventually moved back to Kentucky.
