1894 (24 July) possibly the laborer Michael Kulas who was buried twice with two brick layers and a young boy, while constructing a large cistern as part of a renovation for the Sisters of St. Francis (former Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet run St. John's hospital) at Winona. After the first land slide Michael Kulas & one of the brick layers (Thomas Stanek) were dug out alive, but due to the weight of the onlookers a second land slide reburied the two & only Michael Kulas survived.
Michael Kulas of Dodge, Wisconsin, who was also born in 1869, married Jennie Rohn at Arcadia in 1897; they ran the general store and saloon in Dodge from 1900 until his death in 1918. (Ron Galewski, Dodge, Wisconsin, pp. 125-126)
