Obituary - Michael Mauss, 65, chief jailer of Salt Lake County Jail, died at his residence, of complications following pneumonia. He was born Nov. 2, 1871, at Papillon, Neb., a son of Jacob and Lena Kelsch Mauss and he came to Utah 46 years ago, settling in Murray where he has since resided.

During his entire life here he has been a peace officer, becoming the first city marshal of Murray, in which capacity he served 12 years, then several years serving as a guard at the State Prison, in the County Sheriff's department under Sheriffs Naylor, Harries and Grant Young.

Active as a Church worker, he filled a mission to the Northern States from 1897 to 1809, served a Bishop of the Murray First Ward, and after his release from this position he became a high councilman of the Cottonwood Stake, and at the time of he death, he was a High Priest of the Grant Ward, and a special missionary of Cottonwood Stake.
