Michael Nathan

In the 1841 Census Michal was registered living with his mother Katherin Nathan and brother Lazarus Nathan at 49 Duke Street in the parish of St. James Duke Place, City of London, aged 21, a Butcher, born in Middlesex (c.1820). In the 1851 Census Michael is registered at 37 Duke Street, head, married, aged 34, a Journeyman Butcher, born in Middlesex (c.1817). His wife was listed at Elizabeth (which may be a mistake), aged 26, born in Middlesex (c.1825). Also living there were their children Rachel and Benjamin, and Michael’s widowed mother Catherine. 1861: Michael & Esther were at 94 Middlesex St. with 6 children and his mother Catherine – Michael was recorded as Head (of the household), married, aged 44, a Butcher, born in Islington, Middlesex (c.1817); Esther was recorded as his Wife, aged 34, a Butcher, born in Whitechapel, Middlesex (c.1827). In 1871: Michael & Esther were still at 94 Middlesex Street, with 6 of their children, Michael’s mother and his granddaughter Sarah Asssenheim (aged 2, born Whitechapel c.1869) and a servant (Lisa Mahony, unm, 23, a General Servant, born in Woolwich, Kent); Michael was recorded as Head, married, 54, a Butcher, born in Whitechapel, Middlesex (c.1817); Esther, his wife, aged 44, born in Whitechapel, Middlesex (c.1827).
