About Michael Michael Shoffner, Jr.

Michael Shofner (26 Jan 1752 - 24 Jun 1820) He remained in North Carolina, evidently marrying Philibina Dirr, daughter of Peter Dirr, about 1775. His modern gravestone at St. Paul’s reads “Michael Shoffner, born in Germany Jan. 26, 1752, died 24 of June 1820.” His wife’s stone, in German, gives her birth and death dates (1758-1795) and her father’s name.

Michael invested in land in Bedford County, Tennessee where one of his daughter was living, but never moved to this location. The following deed identifies this land and Michael's heirs:

Michael Shofner, Devisses to John Shofner Relinquishment

This indenturement made this thirteenth day of August 1820. know all men by these presents that we the heirs & lawful Legates of Michael Shofner dec'd of Orange County & State of N. Carolina do jointly and severally relinguish all claims and interests, right, & title in a certain Tract of Parcel of land lying & being in the County of Bedford & State of Tennessee the property of the sd Michael Shofner Dec'd in the year 1817 fron Newton Cannon of the State of Tennessee in the County of Williamsom for the sum of 1500. This will be a sufficent reciept for the sd Newton Cannon, after making a good & lawful deed to John Shofner & Milly Shofner his wife, Lawful heirs, of the above named Michael Dec'd. In Witness whereof we have set our hand & affixed our seals the day & date above written.
