About Mikkel Johnsen Storholt
Death of M.J. Storholt. Was Dragged By Runaway Horse
Great Falls, July 21--Lewistown people report the death of M.J. Storholt at the Lewistown hotel as the result of an accident sustained last Friday. On that day Mr. Storholt left town in a wagon, in company with Bent Dalton, also of Grass Range. They were leading Dalton's horse and when near the Fogarty ranch the horse broke away. Sorholt got out to fasten him and jumped on his back to ride him to the wagon, then several hundred feet away.
Only a rope was attached to the horse's neck, and when the horse began to buck, Storholt was unable to control him and he was bucked off, his foot catching in the stirrup. The horse circled the wagon, dragging the rider. Dalton reached for a gun, which he thought he had, for the purpose of killing the horse, but not finding it, he jumped out and tried to catch the beast. Failing in this, he caught Storholt, and both were kicked by the horse before the stirrup broke, releasing the unfortunate rider.
Storholt, quite unconscious, was brought to tow at once and received medical assistance. No bruises were evident and the injury was diagnosed as concussion of the brain. Storholt did not recover consciousness, but lingered until Monday night.
Deceased was about 31 years old and leaves two brothers, John and Ole, both of whom were with him when he died.
