Mila's father, Peter Gibbons (1730-1826), relocated his large family, to Vienna, Oneida, New York.Soon after arriving in Vienna, Peter, her father, placed Mila with trusted friends Eliakim and Rhoda Pratt Miller, also of Granville, MA. She became Their adopted daughter Mila Miller. (adoption date unknown.)

Eliakim lived in Annsville, Oneida County, NY when he began receiving his pension starting 11 September 1833. He died 24 December 1840 and Rhoda died 9 February 1841. "Their adopted daughter, Mila Gibbons Miller was born 3 October 1791".
