Mildred Hattie Bannerman
RIVERTON/KENZIEVILLE – Mildred Hattie Bannerman, age 97 of Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of Kenzieville, passed away December 21, 2009 at the Villa.
Born in Avondale, she was a daughter of the late John David and Jessie (MacPhee) MacDonald.
She was a resident of Avondale before moving to Kenzieville where she resided all of her married life. Mildred was a registered nurse having graduated from the Aberdeen School of Nursing in 1935. After graduating she was on the nursing staff at the Aberdeen Hospital for a number of years. After her nursing career Mildred went on to work with her late brother Alex at Alex MacDonald Motors. She was a member of the Barney’s River Presbyterian Church and a life member of the AMS. Mildred was also a member of the Aberdeen Hospital Alumni.
Mildred could be counted on for her unselfish ways by helping anyone in the community who needed a helping hand.
She is survived by sister-in-law, Mabel MacDonald of Kenzieville, a step-daughter, Christine Self, Ontario; and nephews: John, Joe, Peter, Kairens and Barrie MacDonald; niece, Joy Williams.
She was predeceased by her husband, Allan Robert Bannerman; brothers, Alex MacDonald and Harold MacDonald; step-son, Donald Bannerman; step-daughters: Ruth MacDermid, Maye Bannerman, Phyllis MacDermid; and nieces, Doris Murray and Laura Robertson; nephews, Allister MacDonald and Paul and his wife, Karen MacDonald.
Her remains will rest in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday. Funeral service will be held on 11 a.m. on Thursday in the Barney’s River Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson and Rev. Larry Welch officiating. Burial will be in Kenzieville Cemetery.
Donations in her memory may be made to the General Fund of Barney’s River Presbyterian Church.
