CLARENDON - Mildred Lindsey Housden, 84, died Wednesday, May 1, 2002, in Amarillo.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Community Fellowship Church with the Rev. Bryan Knowles, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Housden was born Aug. 12, 1917, in Ivanho. Her mother died when she was 14 months old and her family moved to Collingsworth County when she was very young. She grew up on a farm with her daddy, three brothers and four sisters.

She attended schools at Lutie and Samnorwood, graduating from Wellington High School in 1936. She loved sports and played basketball. She married Orville Housden in 1939 at Lelia Lake.

Clarendon has been her home most of her married life except for 15 years when she and her husband lived in Bryan. After going to school and becoming an LVN, she worked at a retirement home in Bryan for 13 years.

After moving back to Clarendon, she worked at Medical Center for 12 years before retiring in 1995. She was a charter member of Community Fellowship Church and VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Casket bearers will be Jimmy Johnson, Johnny Davis, Larry Davis, Jack Eads, Eddy Eads and Darrell Leffew. Honorary bearers will be members of VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1994; her parents; four sisters; and three brothers.

Survivors include two sons, Melvin Housden of Houston and Kenneth Housden and wife, Sammie, of Hedley; six grandchildren, Ricky and Melanie Housden of Pampa, Carie and Russel Gafford and Angie and Troy Burton, all of Snyder, Evette and Hector Flores of Dallas, Tonya Housden of Houston and Eric Housden stationed with the Navy; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews
