According to the marriage registration, Millard's parents were H.C. Spurling and Jane Guffy. Lizzie Lue's parents were Aniel Judd and Emma Goodson. It also gives Millard's birthdate as Aug. 2, 1891 Scott, Tennessee, and Lizzie's birthdate as Dec. 10, 1905.

The 1930 census Hutsonville, Crawford, Illinois shows Millard age 38 living with his wife Lue age 22 and sons Bennie age 6 and William age 4. The 1940 census Jefferson, Sullivan, Indiana shows Millard age 49 living with his wife Lucille age 34, and sons Bennie age 16, and Charles age 8. William is not in the household in 1940. This may be the Billy on the stone with Millard who died in 1936. Millard's son Benjamin married Lena Mae Bement on June 28, 1944.

On that marriage registration, it gives Millard's name Millard Sherman Spurling and the mother as Lucille Judd. Millard's WWII draft registration of 1942, Jefferson, Sullivan, Ind. gives his birthdate as Aug. 2, 1891, Tennessee. The Wabash Valley Obituary index at the Vigo county Public library contains a Millard Spurling that died on July 26, 1949 at the age of 57. It is not confirmed that this is the same Millard Spurling but the age would be correct. No death date is found on the stone.
