US Congressman. Born in Campbellton, Georgia, he graduated from the University of Georgia at Athens in 1854, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1856 and commenced to practice law in Cassville, Bartow County Georgia. He was a member of the Georgia State House of Representatives (1861-63), delegate to the Georgia State constitutional convention in 1865, served in the Georgia State Senate (1868-72) and a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in (1872, 1876). In 1875, he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-fourth and Forty-fifth Congresses, serving until 1879. He was a candidate for re-nomination, but withdrew because of the adoption of a free-silver plank by the district convention. He resumed the practice of law in Decatur, Georgia, until his death at age 72. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
