Milton Crane, a professor of English and a literary critic, died of pneumonia Monday at a nursing home in Washington, where he had resided for the last 10 years.

He was 68 years old.

Dr. Crane was professor emeritus of English at George Washington University, having retired in 1975. He was also the editor of several anthologies of short stories and of Sins of New York, a compilation of accounts of notorious crimes, published in 1948.

He received his bachelor's degree from Columbia and his doctorate from Harvard.

Dr. Crane's wife, Sibylle, died in 1976. Survivors include two sons, John T. Crane of New York and Peter G. Crane of Chevy Chase, Md., and one grandchild. [http://www.nytimes.com/1985/08/15/us/milton-crane.html]
