Mrs. Minnie Elizabeth Carter, 85, of Bridgeport died on Tuesday (Jan. 8, 2008) at her residence.

She was born the daughter of the late Charles and Ruth Keener Swisher. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Ford Carter in 1981. They had celebrated 35 years of marriage.

Mrs. Carter is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Joan Carter of Chicago, Ill.; three daughters and their husbands, Elizabeth and her husband Robert Gricewich of Bridgeport and Weston, Sarah Rebecca and Scott Rohloff of Skokie, Ill., Sharon Darling Strickland and husband Paul Gibson of Bartlett, Ill.; one twin sister, Mary Emma Satterfield of Fairmont; one sister-in-law, Bernadine Swisher of Edgewater, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Mark Gricewich, Bethlyn Gricewich Cluphf, Rebecca Dawn Brink, Nadine Kathryn Mogan, Stephanie Nicole Weber, Caryn Alice Hess, Stephen Strickland and Brian Strickland. She is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Carter was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles J. Swisher; and a granddaughter, Joy Gricewich.

Mrs. Carter was a graduate of Fairmont Senior High School. She also attended Fairmont Business College and Roberts Free Methodist College in Chili, N.Y. She retired with 33 years of service as a secretary for S&C; Electric Co. in Chicago, Ill. She was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Fairmont.

Friends will be received at the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, on Thursday from 2-8 p.m. and on Friday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Free Methodist Church, Morgantown Avenue, Fairmont. The funeral service will be celebrated in the church at 2 p.m. with Pastor Adam Stuck presiding. The interment will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
