I don't have a lot of specific memories about my great-grand mother, but I know she loved me. She was an odd woman, difficult to communicate with and very old-fashioned. She was cagey about some things, but other things she had no problem expressing her opinions about. She could be very kind, in a very purposeful way when she wanted to make a point. I remember she gave me an orange Coca-Cola necklace when I was small that I cherished. She was the first important person in my life that died when I was a kid. We had recently taken a family trip and she died not long after that; I was 8.
