"Mira Marx was a respected Jew in Miltenberg. During the dark times of 1942, the last eleven Jews of Miltenberg were crammed into her house. This type of accommodation in so-called 'Jewish houses' served as preparation for deportation, which was systematically and bureaucratically processed in Miltenberg.
The last trace of Mira Marx was the same as the rest of the remaining Miltenberger Jews; they were all lost in Izbica. Mira Marx, as with many of the other Miltenberger Jews, was officially declared dead on 20 April 1942, Hitler’s birthday”.
After the war, an interesting story was told in Miltenberg when a surviving Jewish woman had showed up there again. Apparently she’d met Mira Marx, shortly before her death in a concentration camp. Mira had called to her and told her that she now had to go with others to take a shower. From then all trace of Mira was lost.
This impressive and certainly not outlandish story can not be confirmed by historical research. But it testifies to how remarkable the story straight from Mira Marx - "Marx Mira, like old Miltenbergers used to say - was held in her hometown”.
