About Miroslav Kareš

1941 (aged 20)- he went with his father Josef Ohrenstein with first tranport to Terezin ghetto

In October 1944 - to concentration camp of death to Auschwitz (Oswieczim, Poland)

In March 1945 when Nazi started so called "death marches" , Miroslav with two boys (one of them lives in Austria, Mr. Klingora) could not march, so they stayed in a straw sheaf. After the Nazi shooted the sheaf and went on marching, three boys survived and started (very hungry) to march back to Czechoslovakia through Poland.

When they finally got in Prague in May after liberation of Czechoslovakia, they got an appartment (after Nazi escaped from it) in Vinohrady, Cerchovska 6.

Miroslav could not find any member of his family. Almost all were death, only some of the succeeded to escape in 1938 (as Ota Ornest - to Great Britain).

Miroslav went to his aunt Anna Rudolfova (born Ohrensteinova) flat in Zizkov (Anna Rudolf and her husband, who saved her as he did not got divorced with her though he was not Jewish). He found her there and then he started to search whether his sister Helena survived. Finally he found her name through Red Cross and planned to take an ambulance car to go for her.(in June,c.)

Helena stayed in hospital (after liberatin) as she was very sick typhoid (tyfus).

She came alone, weighted 36 kilos, by train to Masaryk´s Train Station, thinking she was totlly alone and feeling lonely. She went to her aunt Anna Rudolfova and found her brother.

After that Miroslav took care of his sister Helena (she was in bad shape at least half a year) and started to work to make money for both. That is way he never went to a University.

Miroslav and Helena both joint Comunist Party since 1945 (c.?) as they both believed in Soviet Union as a "better future". The West betrayed them (Munich agreement in 1938).
