Mkhanyifeleni Manqele (1962 - 2002)

Brief overview:

Mkhanyifeleni (40), and five other family members, were shot in their beds by gunmen in the early hours on Saturday 21st September 2002, in Mankenshaneni Reserve, Undumbili, northern KwaZulu-Natal. Dolly Manqele (67), Sithembile Khumalo (14), Vuyani Gwala (8), Nokwanda Gwala (5), and Nombulelo Gwala (6), were sleeping at their homestead when they were shot.

Two other family members were away at the time. They found their relatives dead when they returned. One of those absent at the time of the attack said he believed it was a revenge attack following an incident a few weeks ago in Durban where one of the deceased had an argument with some people.

Police Inspector Msizi Ngcobo said six murder cases had been opened.
