The palace was erected on a rocky slope in the south-east of the Shusha plateau. The palace belonged to the eldest son of Ibrahimkhalil Khan , Mohammad Hasan Agha and his family members. Aga Mohammed Shah Gajar, who captured Shushan in 1796, began to live in the Hasan Aga palace [1] and in 1797 he was killed by Safar Ali in this palace. [1]

History

Settlement of Mahammadhasan Agha's palace in Shushan 's historical center The palaces of khan's palace for the feudal towns of Azerbaijan are characteristic. In these fortresses, which are dominant in the architectural and planning terms of the new cities of the kingdoms of the small kingdoms with small feudal states that began to be formed in the early XVIII century, there were palace complexes and other auxiliary buildings to ensure the safety, security and activity of the ruler and his family. [2] In the sixteenth to eighteenth centuries, kings of power in Azerbaijan were called Icheri Qala , Bala tower or Hell (like Tabriz ). [3]

Typically, the construction of feudal towns began with the construction of a ruler's castle. Since the territory of the Shusha fortress has a unique strategic character, the construction of castle castles, including the castle of Panahali khan, began at the same time as the construction of the Shusha fortress. [2] According to Mirza Adıgozal bey, "large buildings and tall palaces" were built for members of Khan's family in Shusha during the reign of Panahali Khan . [4]

According to N. Dubrovi, the square-shaped palace of the grandson of Ibrahimkhalil Khan, Mohammad Hasan, was located on the rocky cliff from the south-east side of the fortress. During the occupation of the fortress of Shusha in 1796-1797, Aga Mohammad Khan Gajar and his officials settled in this palace. [5]

In the 19th century plans of Shusha city, including 1837 , a square-shaped building with large dimensions was shown at the head of N. Dubrovy. The building was described as "House of Colonel Jafargulu Agha" . [6] Jafargulu Agha Mohammed Hasan was the son and heir. [6]

Architectural features The architectural features of the palace and the bedroom that Aga Mohammed Khan Gajar used when he lived in the palace was found in N. Dubrov's work. While describing the palace, he writes:

" Large gate leads into the inner courtyard. Located along the main façade behind the indoor galleries, there are khan rooms, successfully housed in sunlight. Until recently, one of the brightly colored glass windows of those rooms could see the days of the Karabakh warrior wearing soft carpets on his servants ... The khan, who made the parading room to the court officials, was lying in a small room outside the alien sight. His beloved servants lived in the other two rooms of the corridor, Abbas Bey and Safar Ali Khan's room. There was no furniture in the gloomy room where Khan lived. To protect the ruler's feet from cold stones, all the floors were completely covered with carpets. Near the wall, the khan is on the throne, which is popular then used as bed, seat and parade. The pearl and embroidered fabric shone from the throne to the floor. In the middle of the tile, the unadorned space was intended for the khan to sit. It seemed to be part of this piece that it was red velvet. He settled in a long fur coat and set up a khan bar that covered his waist with a red shade and would welcome visitors. [7] " According to the 19th century city plan, E. Avalov notes that the palace's interior yard is square-shaped. [6] Prussia's state figure and writer Augustine Hartsthausen, who visited Shusha in 1843, notes that the palace is not much different from the surrounding buildings. [8]
