Abdul Rahman Sahib joined the Freedom struggle when he was studying in Presidency College, Madras.

Under Gandhiji's instruction he came to Malabar and joined the Khilafath Movement and Congress. He organised Congress from grassroots level and became the elected President of K.P.C.C.

He was the leader of Salt Sathyagraham in Kozhikode Beach, he suffered severe physical assault from the British Police during the Sathyagraham.

After the “Mapila lahala” lot of Muslim children were become orphans. Seeing the miserable condition of these children; Sahib felt very sad. He started an All India campaign to rehabilitate these poor orphans. Under Sahib’s persuasion Kasoori family (a very wealthy family in Lahore, Pakistan) volunteered to help them, came to Kozhikode and with the help of Sahib they established J.D.T. Islam Orphanage. J.D.T. Islam is the largest orphanage in Asia now. Up to Independence, Kasoori family has financed J.D.T. Islam.

He elected to the Legislative Assembly of Madras State. While forming the Ministry under C. Rajagopalachari, he was considered very seriously, up to the final list. Finally he ignored (due to the interest of fraction - Sahib was in Congress Socialist Party - or interest of religious fanatic’s or any other reason?????????????). In Assembly, he initiated Private Bills for Land and agricultural reforms along with other C.S.P. Members.

He started a Daily named Al Ameen. Al Ameen started in a period of very hectic activities of our Freedom struggle. When “Mathrubhumi” took Gandhian and mild opposition against British rule, Al Ameen had taken many very harsh and attacking attitude towards Brit’s rule especially inhumane acts of Malabar District Collector. Al Ameen banned, Press confiscated, heavy fine imposed on and Sahib was arrested several times. For retaining Press and restart Al Ameen daily he had lost all of his hereditary property as well as major portion of family wealth. One of Al Ameen’s Prohibition period; just before the World War II, Sahib was arrested and detained to the very last of War (at that time he was a Working Committee Member of Forward Block under Netaji). After his release, he lived only a short period; hence he couldn’t restart Al Ameen daily. Later Press was run by Ibrahim Sahib.
