About Abdul rehman Karukapadath
Abdul Rahman Sahib belongs to Karukapadath Punnakkachal family at Arattu vazhi, Eriyad Village. He built a house in Panakalaparamb near Menon Bazar, Azhikode around 1895 and he started living in that house along with his wife and kids. Then onwards that house became a branch of Karukapadath Punnakkachal and known as Panakalaparambil.
The history of Karukapadath family rooted to Great warrior Kottakal Kunjali Marakkar. He was the Head of Naval fleet of Samoothiri (Royal dynasty, rulers of Malabar). Some of the descendants of Kunjali Marakkar shifted their residence to somewhere around Koottayi (between Ponnani and Thiroor) after the capture of Kunjali Marakkar by Prtughese. After some generations there were serious misunderstandings between local rulers (Naduvazhi) and they sought the help of Kochi rulers. The King of Kochi granted acres of land in Kodungallur and they settled in Punnakkachal, Arattu vazhi, Eriyad. Later Karukapadath Punnakkachal family had some marriage links with Nayana family, Warriors of Kochi Dynasty, settled near Manjali. After generations Abdul Rahman Sahib was born and started living in Panakalaparambil.
