About Mollie Cameron Harrison
Curator Note:
from Kathryn Forbes: The Moravian Journals record a story about the wife of Thomas Harrison, also the mother three children by Alexander Cameron. Apparently Cameron and his wife and children left the Cherokee Nation during the Revolutionary War (as did some other Cherokee, going to British-controlled Florida). Although Cameron died in Charleston, SC in 1782, his Cherokee family apparently had gone on to the West Indies. According to Harrison’s story, the wife soon returned to the Cherokee Nation, but her three children, Suzanne Cameron Guerineau, a son, and another daughter, remained in the West Indies. Suzanne returned to the Cherokee Nation with her children after her husband died. Her brother died in the West Indies, and her sister h married and remained there. The story (with no name for the mother) is recorded on July 10, 1810, [Records of the Moravians Among the Cherokees, Vol. 3 July, 20, 1810 pp.1413-1414]. I could not find mention of this family in any other volumes and I could not find the [much later] item Hicks referenced, or a mention of the name “Mollie”.
