About Montgomery Throop Campau
Stickley, two years prior to the murder of Montgomery, discovered that his wife was criminally intimate with Montgomery but settled the matter by getting Montgomery's notes and collateral for ten thousand dollars. After that Stickney moved to Chicago with his wife. Then a while later Campau asked the court for his notes back. Stickney then went to Denver to pursue Campau. He went all about the City looking for Montgomery and was hell bent on killing him. Well he found him around seven in the evening at the boarding house Campau was staying at. It was on Stout Street. He marched in there asking to see Montgomery. Montgomery came through the parlour doors and saw Stickney. Stickney shot him. Montgomery ran and fell on the floor and died. While Stickney was shooting he randomly shot a woman sitting beside her husband having her dinner. The bullet went through her heart and killed her instantly. Her name was Mrs. H. Devereaux. Then the town wanted to find him and hang him. By the time morning came more details of the cause became known and the angry mob calmed down.
Stickney was found not guilty by reason of insanity.
