About Morgan Phillip Evans, Sr.

Morgan Phillip Evans (1855 - 1933), son of Samuel Morgan Evans (born Glamorganshire, South Wales) and Mary Phillips (born Glamorganshire, South Wales), was born 20 June 1855 at Farmington, Davis County, Utah Territory; he died at the age of 78 on 8 September 1933 at Rexburg, Madison County, Illinois, and was buried at Logan, Cache County, Utah. A farmer and ice merchant, he married Annie Maria Partington (1858 - 1935), daughter of William Edward Partington and Annie Elizabeth Cowley; they had twelve children.

Marriage and Children

Annie Maria Partington (19 February 1858 Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah - 25 January 1935 Blackfoot, Bingham County, Idaho), married Morgan Phillip Evans on 11 October 1875 in the Salt Lake Endowment House. They were the parents of twelve children born in Arizona and Cache County, Utah.

Rexburg, Idaho - Funeral services were conducted in the Rexburg LDS First ward chapel Wednesday for Morgan Phillips Evans, 75, who died at the family home Sunday following an illness of several months. The body will be taken to Logan, where services will be conducted Thursday and burial will be in the Logan cemetery.

Mr. Evans was born January 20, 1855, at Farmington, Utah, and the family pioneered Logan when he was a small boy. They were part of the first company to settle in that town. He grew to manhood there and soon after his marriage both he and his wife spent seven years in Arizona, where they did LDS missionary work, then resturned to Benson, Utah, where he engaged in farming. Later he moved to Logan and was a member of the police force several years.

The family moved to Rexburg in 1902 and had resided here since. Mr. Evans at the time of his death was engaged in the ice business. He had been an active member of the Rexburg LDS First ward.

He is survived by his widow and four sons: David, Parley P., Jesse P. and Joseph P. Evans, Rexburg; eight brothers and sisters: David Evans, Preston; Daniel L. Evans, Anaconda, Mont,; Edward L. Evans, Sugar City; Mrs. Sarah Purdie, Mrs. Isaac Steward and Mrs. William H. Thain, Logan; Mrs. Elizabeth Shelton, Pocatello, and Mrs. Rachel Harrison, Malad.
