About Morris B Adkins

Morris/Marris Adkins married Rebecca Young in Wayne Co., Kentucky on 12 Mar 1820. They made their home on a farm in the part of southern Wayne County that later became known as Sunnybrook. Together they had seven children: Pharaba (married Jonathan Butram/Bertram), George Washington, William, Benjamin Franklin, Samuel, Andrew Jackson and Catharine. Rebecca died in 1836 and was buried in what became known as the Carter D. Dalton Cemetery in Wayne Co., Kentucky. After her death Morris married Martha "Patsy" Lawrence. He sold his land in Kentucky and migrated to Alabama, where he and Patsy had several children together.

Morris's first name is spelled Marris on the double tombstone he shares with his second wife. The year of his birth on the tombstone (1813) is definitely incorrect as proof exists that he married his first wife, Rebecca Young, in 1820. If he had really been born in 1813 he would have been seven years old when he married the first time! Family records passed down from his oldest child in Kentucky give his birth date as 22 Jan 1802 and his death date as 06 Jan 1885. Both of these differ from the tombstone but that is not an unusual occurrence.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Jan 6 2022, 23:11:14 UTC
