Biography

MOSES ADAMS was born Oct 26, 1654 in Dedham, MA. (now Medfield, MA),[1]

He married (1) MARY FAIRBANKS May 14, 1680 in Medfield, Norfolk Co., MA.[2] He married (2) LYDIA WHITNEY Apr 15, 1684 in Sherborn, Middlesex Co., MA., daughter of JONATHAN WHITNEY and LYDIA JONES.[3]

Moses died on 27 May 1724 in Sherborn, MA and is buried in the Brush Hill Cemetery.[4]

Notes

Probably inherited his father's land, in Sherborn, situated on Wennekeening Brook. He seems to have had his house lot of 20 acres assigned him on Chestnut Brook, where he undoubtedly lived. He was tythingman in 1696, and drew land in Douglas 1715.

Per SAVAGE, VOL 1 Dictionary of First Settlers Of New England ADAMS, MOSES, Sherborn, son of Henry the second married 15 April 1681, Lydia daughter of Jonathan Whitney of the same, had Benoni, born 3 November following, Lydia, 2 February 1684; Elizabeth 18 September 1686, died young; Hannah, 8 February 1688; Elizabeth again, 25 October 1689; Moses, 26 November 1691; James, 7 July 1693; Isaac, 4 March 1695; and Abigail, 7 September 1697; was selectman 1701, and died 1724.

Savage is incorrect about parentage of Benoni; Sherborn records are clear. Benoni was born on 3 Nov 1681, just 12 days prior to Mary's death. Given that only 12 days separate the birth of her first child and her death, it seems likely that she died of complications from that birth. Moses did not marry Lydia until 1684. It therefore is highly likely that Mary was Benoni's mother.
