Moses' parents had established their home in Buncombe County, NC whenhe was about nine years old. In the early 1820s, Moses and Lydia movedwest to Macon County, NC. Moses bought several parcels of land duringthe next few years and
eventually owned 900 acres. He farmed and worked the timber.
Moses was driving a four horse team when he was thrown from the wagon,breaking both legs. He died a few days later. His property was sold atauction and divided among the children, Lydia receiving dower rightson the home place.
