Moses enlists in the patriot army and serves as a private in Captain David Laird's "Company of Foot", of the 10th Virginia Regiment, commanded by Col. Edward Stevens. He served under Capt. Nathan Lammes' infantry company of the 6th Virginia Regiment and also under Col. John Green. Records show that he was at Valley Forge during the winter of 1777/78 and at White Plains, NY. following the battle of Monmouth, NJ.
