Biography

Moses Fargo with his wife Sarah emigrated from Wales about the year 1680 and settled in New London, CT. He remained in New London until 1690 when he moved to Norwich, CT returning again to the North Parish of New London now called Montville where he died about the year 1726. Moses Fargo or Firgo as it was written and his wife Sarah were both living in 1726. (Page 513-514)
Early in 1775, an Independent Military Camp was formed in New London, Capt. William Court. It was well trained and equipped and held itself ready for any emergency immediately after the news of the battle of Lexington was received this gallant band started for the scene of conflict. They encamped the first night on Norwich Green; the second on Sterling Hill, the third in Providence. Another Militia company went from those parts of the town which are now Waterford and Monville, under Major Jonathan Latimer, Captain Able Spicer with another from Groton fifty towns in CT sent troops to Boston on this occasion.

The following minutes of the day before the battle, were copied from the originals preserved in the Sargents family by the lateThomas Shaw Perkins. They are inserted here as memorials of one of the New London company's that fought at Bunker Hill. Sargeant Fargo reported to the Sargeant Major of Capt. About the year 1662, Jacent Fargo sailed from Lyons, France with his wife, four sons and two daughters and landed at Sydney, in Wales, England the same year. His sons' names were Robert, Jacent, Aaron, Moses; daughters' names were Anna, Eunice. In1668, Aaron and Moses came to America in a vessel called "Armenia", and landed in what is now called Norwich, Conn., where they soon came in possession of a large tract of land. They were men of energy, thrift and foresight, and in consequence amassed wealth and secured to themselves an extensive influence in business and social circles. Aaron, the elder of the brothers that came from Wales, died after having been in the country about thirty years, leaving a family of two boys and one girl,who inherited their father's estate.

Moses - emigrated from Wales to America in 1668 on a vessel called "Armenia" and landed in what is now Norwich, Conn. where they soon came into possession of a tract of land. They were men of energy, thrift and foresight, and in consequence amassed wealth and secured themselves an extensive influence in business and social circles.

Moses was granted a house in New London, Conn. in 1680. In 1690, he was in Norwich and in 1694 was granted land "on a hill above the rock where the house stands". In 1722 he appears among the inhabitants of the North Parish of New London in what is now Montville, Conn.

12-18-1679 Town Meeting, New London, Conn

Moses Fergoes requests a small parcel of land to build a house ? and shop and a small herbe garden on that ground that lies near the mill bridge over against the upper end of Mr Pyrams lott, which is granted on condition that he build on the same and reside thereon five or six years.

Moses was the common ancestor of Angeline Fargo who married Smith Bibbins and William George Fargo who founded Wells Fargo.
