Biography
The Haight genealogy by David W. Hoyt, which is the only one I have seen, although there may have been others, calls this Moses the first child and only son of Moses, and says he lived in Eastchester in good circumstances. "First Families of America" called him a constable in 1683 and a fence viewer in 1698. Town records of Eastchester: " Moses. Hoite, Jr., was granted a home lot, March, 1682-83 and other land in 1687. Land bought by him was entered in 1693." He was on the list of rates in 1699-70; his ear mark is recorded in 1702 and there are numerous other entries. By 1696 he had a pew in the meeting-house directly behind his father's. There are several deeds of Moses and his wife recorded from 1701-1703 at White Plains. In 1702 his father deeded to him "one-half of his home lot in Eastchester, the west side, with house and barn thereon, and the other land, reserving certain rights to himself and wife, also 'one negro called Ben.".
Moses Hoyt, Eastchester.
Leaves to daughters Abigail, Elinor, Rachael and Marian "my house and home lot formerly my father's in Eastchester." My wife Elizabeth is to sell the same and divide the proceeds among them when they are 18. To my son Moses all my house and home lot where I now dwell, and all the land adjoining below the road which runs by the west side and north end of said lot, and 10 acres of land near the third meadow, which was formerly Wm Pinckneys, and a 4 acre lot of land formerly my father's, near Henry Fowler's lot, and 1/2 my privileges in the town of. Eastchester. Leaves to sons Aaron, Joshua, and Calab all other lands in Eastchester when 21.
Witnesses. John Lancaster. Moses Taylor. Moses Fowler. Dated June 5, 1711. Proved March 14, 1711/12. [1]
He died at the age of 49, when his children were all minors, obviously in good circumstances. The only reference I have seen to his being a Quaker, was the mention of his pew at the meeting-house. He did not appear to share the restless soul of his grandfather, but his sons did.
Died 14 Mar 1711/12. Eastchester, NY. Imported only 14 Mar 1711 from Death Date and marked as uncertain.
