Evidence from the Laing Charters
11 July 1552: Instrument narrating that Thomas Reidpeth in Peill resigned into the hands of John Lummisden of Blanerne, one of the bailies of the burgh of the Canongate of the monastery of Holyrood, near Edinburgh, an annualrent of eight merks from his tenement of land on the north side of the High Street of the said burgh, between the land of the late John Makcaw on the east, the lands of the late Thomas Harrat and John Lawson on the west, the 'Strand' on the north, and the High Street on the south; and that in favour of Mr. Abraham Crichton, provost of Dunglas, for whom Thomas Crechton acted as attorney. Done 14th July 1552. Witnesses, John Peblis, John Blaike, Alexander Paterson alias Cristesone, James Skeldy, Francis Johnston, and Thomas Crawfurd, serjeant of the burgh. Joh Makneill of Glasgow dioceses by apostolic authority notary public. Laing Charters: charter number 602
