About Mr Julius Cornelius Christiaan (Boeta) Pistorius

Oldest Brother of Petronella (Nell) Wolmarans, Adriaan Willem (Ala) Pistorius and Mettie De La Rey.

Julius was a farmer for most of his life, although he worked on the gold mines for a while.

His father Johannes Jurie farmed on the two farms Zandfontein and Elysium, bordering the Matlabas River in the Thabazimbi bushveld. After his father's death Julius inhereted part of the farm Zandfontein, this he shared with his sister Mettie, but bought her part later on. His brother Ala and sister Nellie farmed on Elysium, the neighbouring farm.

Julius later on bought the farms Kruispan closer to Sentrum and Cumberland on the banks of the Limpopo River on the Botswana border south of the Buffelsdrift border post. He farmed mostly with cattle, sheep, maize and peanuts.

Julius was a stud breader of Afrikaner cattle and won several championships. He had a bull by the name of Dagbreek and a cow called Kalkoen that were both champions on the Rand Show in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Rustenburg. Julius was also one of the first Brahman Cattle breaders and even imported Brahman cattle from America. He produced several champions with these cattle on shows around the country. His right hand was Jantjie who had a enormous input to prepare these cattle for shows.

During the drought of 1966/67 Julius had approximately 1200 heads of cattle on the three farms and was forced to look for grazing elsewhere. He decided to move his stock and picked the Waterberg ranges where there was good grazing for his cattle at this point in time. This area was totally different from the bushveld (which was flat bushveld with sweat grass), the area was more mountenous and differing grass that caused huge cattle loss. This was the end of his Afrikaner stud breading and he changed to Brahman breading.

He sold the farms Cumberland and Kruispan and started planting maize and watermelon on the farms Boekenhoutkloof and Witfontein in the Vaalwater/Alma area. He also bought the farms Taaibos and Platbank between Vaalwater and Bulgerivier. Later on he bought two more farms Bouland and Akkervlei in the Visgat area.

Julius was a welknown figure and was respected by many, he travelled abroad and was always extremely well dressed and seen as a good business man.
