About Murad Hanna Hannouch
Monday, the 8th of November, 1915, Azakh. Jesus-Fedayeen Murad Hanna Hannouch shoots a Turkish military officer, prompting a retreat by the Turkish military, leaving all wounded behind[1]. The man is bleeding profusely, but it is decided among the tribes that he is to be put to death out of mercy as he will not survive his wounds. Twelve Assyrians passed away in the fighting that day.
Some sources claim his surname was "Poşluk"[2], but this is most likely the designated Ottoman Turkish name they were given. Assyrians/Syriac and Armenians, as a result of wide-spread and forceful assimilation policies, were only registered with non-ethnic, thus non-original surnames. Perhaps it could have equally have been chosen by the family themselves.
