About Hanna Murad Hannouch
Used to be known by his nickname "Hannouch", later used as a surname which would be passed on to his children. According to one source, the "Hannouch"-nickname signified Hanna's short height.
The Syriac "Hanna" and the European "Johannes" both stem from the same Hebrew name "Yohanan", thus the surname "Hannouch" is technically a corruption of the name "Hanna" or "Johannes".
Hannoush (Hannouch) is a Syriac family with origins in Azekh[1], according to one source. Which goes well with the birth places of these individuals. According to the same source, the family does not seem to belong to any specific sub-group or clan in the region.
No "Hanna Murad", "Hanna Kanûn", "Hanna Hannouch", or any other combination is found in the 1870 census by Abdulla Sattuf of Tur Abdin in Azekh or any neighboring village.
There could be many different reasons, either he was not paying taxes, did not live in the viscinity at this point, did not get recorded simply by chance, or he was recorded but his name is not visibile in the public scanned version of the record. Another possibility is that he was not yet an adult at this point, which seems unlikely, considering his father's age. His brother however, can be found living in Azekh in this year.
