About Murray Hundert

MURRAY HUNDERT November 15, 1922 - July 7, 2012 With much sadness we announce the passing of Murray Hundert at the age of 89 years on July 7, 2012. Murray will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Geraldine, son Marshall and his family, Sharon, Matthew and Adam; son Steven and grandsons Josh and Joey and great-grandson Lowell; and daughter Sherri (Allan) Palef (Toronto), and grandchildren Michael and Carla. He was predeceased by his brother, Charles (Toronto) and daughter- in-law Miriam (Philadelphia). Murray was born and raised in Toronto and during the second world war, was enlisted as an aircraft engineer with the Royal Canadian Air Force. His knowledge of aircraft led to his lifetime hobby of collecting heritage warplanes and their parts for restoration projects at a number of aeronautical museums across Canada. Murray's varied business background included many years at the Calgary Stampede and he would have been particularly keen to have witnessed this year's one hundredth anniversary of the event. Murray felt a connection to the Stampede through his equestrian equipment and apparel businesses although to our knowledge he never actually rode a horse. Murray displayed a sharp, most would say dry, sense of humour and viewed life with a very positive outlook. He conducted himself with an incredibly high degree of fairness and always considered the thoughts and feelings of others before his own. Murray and Gerri spent almost all of their years living in Toronto and Hamilton and our many family visits included the cottage in Muskoka where Murray greatly enjoyed paddling around the lake in his canoe with family and friends. Very recently both Murray and Gerri relocated to Edmonton to be with their family there and they have all benefited from the opportunities to spend time together especially the recent addition of their great-grandson Lowell. Murray's funeral and interment was held on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Edmonton Jewish Cemetery at 7622 - 101 Avenue.
