Birth: Aug. 31, 1874 Horine Jefferson County Missouri, USA Death: Jun. 10, 1905 Des Moines Polk County Iowa, USA
Myrtle Edith Freese was born in Horine, Jefferson County, Missouri, on August 31, 1874, the daughter of Henry and Eliza Jane Smith Freese. On December 30, 1903, she married in DeSoto, to Ray Gilman Veazey, son of Daniel Barber Veazey and Louise MacKay. It appears they had no children before Myrtle passed away 1 1/2 years after they were married.
From the Jefferson Democrat of June 15, 1905:
"Mrs. Ray Veazey of Des Moines, Iowa, who will be remembered as Myrtle Freese, formerly of this county, died at her home this week, and was buried there Tuesday afternoon. Her death is a sad blow to her young husband and her relatives and many friends in this county."
From the Jefferson Democrat of August 3, 1905:
"Obituary. VEAZEY, Myrtle E. Freese was born near Horine, Jefferson county, Missouri, August 31, 1874. She was educated partly at Zion District Public School, in part at Hillsboro under Rev. George Steel, in Belleview Collegiate Institute, and also in Cape Girardeau normal school. After having taught school in this county, in Dunklin County, and Faulkton, South Dakota, she decided to change occupation. Consequently, she entered business college at DeSoto and in a marvelously short while was ready to do stenographic work very satisfactorily. After working in the Republican office in DeSoto for some time, she secured a more lucrative position in South Dakota, and returned to Faulkton as a stenographer. She was of a sweet disposition, modest, gentle, kind, and never tired in rendering service to others. As a child, she was dutiful, industrious, and studious, and grew to be even more so in womanhood, maturing in winsomeness and considerateness all the while. She joined the Baptist church at Sandy when thirteen years of age, but while teaching in South Dakota, finding her associates mainly in the Congregational church, she transfered her membership there. Her's was a sweet Christian spirit, loved and loving. Wherever she lived there are hearts that are experiencing the bereavement of a dear friend in her death. No one ever knew Myrtle to have had an enemy. To know her was to love her. She was married to Ray G. Veazey in DeSoto, by the Rev. George Steel, December 30, 1903. They had made their home in Kansas City ever since, except about two months prior to her demise. She was buried in Des Moines, Iowa, in which city she died June 10, 1905. She was a silent sufferer. Since her death we have learned that she was partially paralyzed, was blind, and that her mind finally became somewhat affected. How sad! Poor, sweet, confiding Myrtle. Farewell darling, 'Till we meet at Jesus's feet."
